ABOUT
Chase Shoemaker (b. 1994) is an award-winning composer based in Bettendorf, Iowa where he currently holds the position of Vocal Music Director for Bettendorf High School. He received a B.M. in Music Education from Simpson College in 2016 where he studied composition with Dr. Michael Patterson, piano with Dr. Robert Larsen, voice with Prof. Matthew Lau, and conducting with Dr. Timothy McMillin. He recently graduated with a M.M. in Choral Conducting from Portland State University in 2021, where he co-directed the University Choir, directed the Rose Choir, taught course-work in Vocal Techniques, and studied choral conducting and arranging from Dr. Ethan Sperry. Apart from his academic studies, he also taught for three years as the Vocal Music Director for the Harlan Community School District, during which time he taught 7th and 8th Grade Choir, 9th Grade Treble Choir, High School Concert Choir, Beginning and Advanced Music Theory, and two units of Music History. He was also actively involved in his community working as the music director for the Harlan Community Theatre and as the vocal director for the St. Mike’s Mens Choir.

His compositional accomplishments include being awarded by the Iowa Choral Directors Association and the Iowa Composers Forum in 2019 for his SSAA piece “Love Came Down at Christmas.” He was also awarded by the Iowa Composers Forum in 2015 for his vocal piece “To Celia.” In 2016 he was awarded by the Morningside College Composition Festival and The Choral Project of San Jose, CA for his SSAATTBB piece “Ave Maria.” His music has been performed by the Chamber Singers of Simpson College, the Urbandale Singers, the Bishop Heelan Chorale, the Roland-Story Treble Clef Choir, the Sioux City North High School Chamber Choir, the Harlan Concert Choir, The Choral Project of San Jose, California, and Rose Choir and Chamber Choir of Portland State University.
Outside of his musical career, Chase enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends, traveling when he is able, partaking in Asian cuisine, and playing with his three-year-old corgi, Rosie.
